New York: Hurst and Company, Publishers, c1890. Decorative publisher's cloth stamped in black and yellow floral designs on cream cloth. 6" x 4.25", 276pp. Light soiling and age toning to the binding, gilt spine lettering largely faded, and minor rubbing at the extremities. Text clean and sound with occasional scattered foxing. Very Good.
Charming late nineteenth-century edition of Poe's collected poetry, including "The Raven," "Annabel Lee," "The Bells," "Ulalume," and many of his other best-known works, accompanied by J. H. Ingram's memoir of the author. Issued in an attractive floral binding characteristic of Hurst's gift-book productions of the period, this compact volume reflects the sustained popularity of Poe's poetry during the decades following his death and remains a visually appealing example of Victorian book design.
