The Outside and Others was not just the first book published by Arkham House, it was the reason for the founding on the press in the first place. It contains one essay about Lovecraft by August Derleth & Donald Wandrei, 36 short stories, and a 28,000-word essay Lovecraft surveying the development and achievements of horror fiction.
