The sixth published volume in The Chronicles of Narnia and the book that reveals the creation of Narnia itself. Through the adventures of Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer, Lewis recounts the origins of the enchanted wardrobe, the rise of the White Witch, and Aslan's singing of a new world into existence. Pauline Baynes's illustrations accompany the text throughout, providing the visual interpretation that became inseparable from the early Narnian books. Though later editions reordered the series chronologically, The Magician's Nephew was originally published after The Horse and His Boy and serves as Lewis's retrospective account of Narnia's beginnings.
