LANG, Andrew. The True Story Book.

London: Longmans, Green and Co., 1917. Ninth impression. 7.5" x 5.5", xv + 337pp. Original blue cloth stamped in gilt on front cover and spine with nautical and historical vignette designs; top edge untrimmed. Illustrated throughout with numerous plates and in-text illustrations by L. Bogle, Lucien Davis, J. L. Ford, C. H. Kerr, and Lancelot Speed. Cloth with moderate rubbing and scattered gilt wear, corners softened; spine ends lightly frayed. Light foxing to preliminaries and plate margins. Very Good.

Part of Lang’s historical and adventure series distinct from the Fairy Books, this volume gathers narrative accounts drawn from history and exploration. Contents include episodes such as “A Boy Among the Red Indians,” “Prince Charlie’s Wanderings,” and other biographical and military adventures, accompanied by maps and dramatic full-page illustrations. A representative wartime-era impression of one of Lang’s lesser-seen companion volumes to the Fairy Book series.
