[KEATS, John] FORMAN, H. Buxton. The Complete Poetical Works of John Keats. Edited with an Introduction and Textual Notes.

London: Henry Frowde, 1907. Oxford Edition. 8" x 5.5", lxxvii + 491pp. Quarter vellum over green cloth with gilt roses and leather title label on spine. FFEP, frontispiece, and tissue foxed. Dampstain evident a lower quarter of spine and boards, as well as flyleaves. Textblock clean and sound. Binding tight. Good.

In the early 1900s, many publishers used quarter vellum bindings—covering the spine with vellum while leaving the boards in cloth—to combine durability with a refined appearance. Gilt spine adornments, often including titles, decorative rules, or small motifs, were applied to give the book a touch of elegance and make it stand out on a shelf. This style was popular for classics, scholarly works, and limited editions, signaling both quality and affordability compared with full leather bindings.
