FOSTER, Helen Commonplace Book and Manuscript Album.

England, n.d./c1839–mid 19th century. Contemporary full leather with gilt edges. Approx. 8.75" x 7.25". A mid-19th century commonplace book compiled by Helen Foster, containing manuscript poetry, copied verse, decorative penwork, and one original drawing, with dated entries beginning in 1839. Several handwritten letters laid in and retained within the volume. Also present are a page of pressed seaweed and two pages of additional botanical specimens, reflecting the common 19th-century practice of combining literary, artistic, and natural history material within a single personal album. Light rubbing to binding and wear at extremities; internally clean with expected toning. Manuscript pages remain legible and well preserved, letters intact, and specimens showing only typical minor fragility and discoloration. Very Good.
