BUDGE, E. A. Wallis. The Chapters of Coming Forth by Day; or, The Theban Recension of the Book of the Dead: The Egyptian Hieroglyphic Text Edited from Numerous Papyri.
London: Kegan Paul, Trench, Trübner & Co., Ltd., 1910. Complete in three volumes. 7.75" x 5.5", lxviii + 797pp. Original publisher’s brown cloth, spines lettered in black with volume designations I–III; upper boards ruled and decorated in black, with series title “Books on Egypt and Chaldaea.” Bindings solid, with moderate edge wear and rubbing to extremities; light fraying at spine ends and mild darkening to cloth. Internally clean overall, with light toning and occasional spotting consistent with age; text and hieroglyphs clear and legible throughout. Very Good.
A complete three-volume set of Budge’s early 20th-century edition of the Egyptian Book of the Dead, presenting the Theban recension in hieroglyphs. Budge, then Keeper of Egyptian and Assyrian Antiquities at the British Museum, drew on multiple papyri to establish a comparative scholarly text, making this set foundational for modern Egyptology and the study of ancient funerary literature.
