Illustrations are by Ellen Raskin, an acclaimed designer and children’s author best known for The Westing Game, which won the 1979 Newbery Medal. Before her writing career, she was a prolific illustrator and graphic artist, creating covers and drawings for dozens of mid-century publications. She also designed the original dust jacket for A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle, and her distinctive, stylized line work lends this anthology a lively yet unsettling visual character that complements its macabre themes.
