BIRCH, A. G. The Moon Terror and Other Stories.
Indianapolis: Popular Fiction Publishing Co., 1927. First edition. 192pp. Publisher's original dark blue cloth with bold yellow lettering to front board and spine. Lacking dust jacket. Light rubbing and soiling to boards, with wear and minor fraying at spine ends and corners. Pages lightly toned, with faint pencil notation to title page. Very Good.
An early anthology of supernatural horror and science fiction, collecting four stories originally published in the pioneering pulp magazine Weird Tales in 1923: A. G. Birch's "The Moon Terror," Anthony M. Rud's "Ooze," Vincent Starrett's "Penelope," and Farnsworth Wright's "An Adventure in the Fourth Dimension." Published by the company behind Weird Tales, this was the magazine's first hardcover anthology. The title story concerns a sinister plot to unleash catastrophic earthquakes and split the Earth apart, while Rud's "Ooze" was the cover story of the magazine's inaugural issue. An important early volume in the history of American weird fiction and pulp publishing.
