First single-volume edition. 6.75" x 4.25", 340pp. Contemporary, ruled in gilt, spine with raised bands and gilt-lined compartments, lacking a tooled spine label. Front joint cracked; both boards still secure. Leather rubbed with surface wear and small losses at extremities; text block complete. Lacks the frontispiece and engraved additional title leaf, apparently never bound in. Pencil inscriptions to the verso of front free endpaper. No bookplates or other noted provenance. Mild, scattered foxing, but generally clean throughout the text. Very Good-.
First appearance of “Pride and Prejudice” in a single volume, issued as part of Bentley’s Standard Novels series and representing the final lifetime edition overseen by Austen’s family.
