Anonymous. “Ginette.”
Paris, April 1948. Group of seven original black-and-white photographs, various sizes: three 4.5” x 6.5”, three 5” x 7”, and one 7” x 9.5”. A cohesive set depicting the same young woman identified in contemporary manuscript captions as “Ginette, 25 ans,” with repeated notations of “1948,” “Avril 48,” and “Paris,” and several references to “Hotel 49.” The images present a composed sequence across both interior and exterior settings, suggesting a single planned photographic session rather than casual snapshots. Prints remain clean and well-preserved, with light, even wear consistent with handling. Very Good.
A coherent and evocative postwar Parisian photographic group, notable for its combination of named subject, precise dating, and varied yet unified composition. The repeated use of a single first name, without surname, raises the possibility of a working or informal studio pseudonym, a practice not uncommon in mid-century French photographic circles.
