SKINNER, M. P. The Yellowstone Nature Book.
Chicago: A. C. McClurg & Co., 1924. 8" x 5.5", 229pp. Illustrated throughout with 58 black-and-white photographic plates + a map, many after photographs by the National Park Service, depicting landscapes, waterfalls, flora, and geological features of Yellowstone National Park. Original publisher’s dark green cloth, gilt lettered and decorated on the upper board with a geyser vignette, gilt spine lettering. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, “With compliments of M. P. Skinner.” Cloth lightly rubbed at extremities with minor surface wear, small bumps to spine ends, gilt slightly dulled; binding firm; hinges sound; contents clean overall with light, even toning and a few small, scattered spots. Bookplate from Marge E. Harkness and with another signature as well. Very Good.
A well-illustrated natural history of Yellowstone by Milton P. Skinner, Roosevelt Field Naturalist at the Roosevelt Wild Life Forest Experiment Station. The book combines accessible scientific discussion with photographic documentation of the park’s flora, geology, and scenery during the early twentieth century, reflecting contemporary conservation and educational efforts associated with the National Park Service. The authorial presentation inscription adds association interest to an already desirable Yellowstone imprint.
