POE, Edgar Allan. Tales of Adventure, Mystery and Imagination.

London, New York & Melbourne: Ward, Lock & Co., 1890. Minerva Library of Famous Books edition. 7.25" x 5", vii + 557pp + publishers catalog. With an engraved portrait frontispiece of Poe, full-page illustrations, and a critical introduction by the editor, G. T. Bettany. Publisher's original olive-green cloth decoratively stamped in black and gilt. Light foxing to the title page and a few scattered leaves, with occasional minor marks to the text block. Binding sound with light rubbing at the extremities and a few small spots to the cloth. Very Good.

An attractively produced Victorian edition collecting many of Poe's best-known tales of adventure, mystery, and the macabre, including The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym, "The Gold-Bug," "The Murders in the Rue Morgue," "The Fall of the House of Usher," "The Pit and the Pendulum," and numerous other classics. Issued as part of Ward, Lock & Co.'s Minerva Library of Famous Books, the volume pairs Poe's imaginative fiction with a scholarly introduction by naturalist and science writer G. T. Bettany and is illustrated throughout with dramatic period engravings. A handsome late nineteenth-century edition of Poe's enduring tales in its original publisher's binding.
