[Massachusetts] Anonymous. Herbarium and Plant Descriptions.

Boston: Allyn and Bacon, n.d. [c1895]. Oblong folio, string-tied stiff wrappers, containing 25 well-mounted specimens with manuscript “Plant Description” sheets. Collected May–June 1895 in Whitman, Massachusetts. Specimens neatly affixed with original gummed strips; minor offsetting and a few loose sheets, but overall clean and well-preserved. With a handwritten index listing all samples. Very Good.

A late 19th-century student herbarium pairing preserved specimens with detailed botanical analysis on printed forms (Edward T. Nelson). Entries record structural features—root, stem, leaves, and floral morphology—reflecting formal classroom study. Identified specimens include wood anemone and wild strawberry. An appealing and instructive survival of period botanical education.
