In The Colour Out of Space, a strange meteorite crashes on a farm near Arkham, leaving behind a mysterious, otherworldly substance that defies scientific analysis. Over time, the land, plants, animals, and eventually the Gardner family themselves are corrupted by the alien presence, with grotesque transformations and slow decay spreading outward. The tale ends with the farm in ruins, the family destroyed, and the terrifying implication that the alien force still lingers beneath the blasted heath.
