[Palestine] GREENE, Rev. Harvey B. Pressed Flowers From the Holy Land. Flowers Gathered and Pressed by Rev. Harvey B. Greene.

Lowell, MA: Harvey B. Greene, 1902. 6.25” x 4.75”, 32pp with 12 dried specimens. Pale blue wraps with white titling and bound with cord. Wraps lightly soiled. Dampstain on lower right corner throughout. Binding secure. All specimens still attached, albeit a handful have begun to shift near the tops. Very Good.

Rev. Harvey B. Greene was an American clergyman who traveled to Palestine at the turn of the 20th century, collecting and preserving native flora as part of a broader effort to bring the biblical landscape to life for American audiences. His work blended devotion, education, and natural history, offering tangible connections to sacred sites through the physical presence of their plant life. Greene personally gathered, pressed, and published these specimens for sale in the U.S., often using the proceeds to support missionary or church-related activities. This example reflects both the era’s fascination with the Holy Land and Greene’s unique role in making it accessible to those who would never travel there.
