Early American illustrated edition. 7.5" x 5.25", 230pp. Publisher’s decorative green cloth stamped in gilt, cream, and black with an Art Nouveau-style pictorial design to upper cover and spine, featuring repeated female profile motifs within a floral lattice. Frontispiece in color; numerous illustrations by John Tenniel throughout, many of the black-and-white illustrations hand-colored by a former owner. Front hinge cracked but holding; some soiling and handling wear to cloth with light rubbing at extremities; text block sound and internally clean aside from the contemporary coloring. Good+.
