F. H. Townsend was a prominent British illustrator and art editor for Punch magazine, known for his work on late-Victorian and Edwardian illustrated editions. He contributed illustrations to notable authors including Arthur Conan Doyle and Rudyard Kipling, and his Brontë illustrations are among his most recognized book work. Townsend’s style favored strong line work and clear narrative composition, making him one of the more sought-after illustrators for classic reprints of the period.
