ALIGHIERI, Dante. The Vision; or, Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise of Dante Alighieri.
London: W. W. Gibbings, 1891. Standard British Classics edition. 8.75" x 6", xlvii + 496 pp. Translated by the Rev. Henry Francis Cary, with a Life of Dante, a chronological view of his age, additional notes, and an index. Finely bound in contemporary Florentine hand-painted vellum, the boards decorated with an elaborate geometric lattice in gilt with alternating red and blue lozenge motifs, framed in gilt and red rules; spine with gilt arabesque panels and gilt-lettered title. Top edge gilt; patterned blue and yellow endpapers. Bookseller’s label of "Libreria Internazionale, Firenze" to the front pastedown. Vellum gently bowed as typical, with scattered surface marks and faint soiling to the rear board; slight fading to portions of the front panel decoration; light spotting to endleaves and minor offsetting to the flyleaf; text clean and sound. Very Good.
