ALCOTT, Louisa M. Rose in Bloom.
Boston: Roberts Brothers, 1893. 7" x 5", 375pp. Illustrated. Publisher’s teal cloth stamped in black and gilt. Light-to-moderate shelf wear with rubbing at corners and spine ends, scattered small spots/soiling to cloth, and general age toning to the paper with occasional spotting visible. Spine slightly cocked and front hinge starting. Very Good-.
Rose in Bloom continues the story begun in “Eight Cousins,” following Rose Campbell as she returns from Europe and enters Boston society under the watchful eye of her Uncle Alec. Unlike many domestic novels of the period, Alcott allows Rose a degree of moral and intellectual independence, framing courtship not as passive destiny but as a test of character, health, and principle.
