"Le Fantôme de l'Opéra" by Gaston Leroux [Editions Pierre Lafitte, 1922]. Twenty-second thousand. Lafitte published the first edition in 1910, Hachette purchased Lafitte in 1916, and then Hachette published this edition 6 years later but with the same text as the first. Early copies of "Phantom" in the original French continue to be highly prized. Demi-percaline binding over marbled boards with gilt spine titling and marbled endpapers. 320pp. Sewn-in bookmark. The last page (Table of Contents) has a 1/2 inch tear in the edge. The whole textblock has general toning, as pictured. Light rubbing to the edges of the percaline and there is there is a small amount of glue at the head of the spine, likely from an old pricing sticker. Binding is tight and the textblock has no writing or foxing. Overall, Very Good+ and the only copy of its kind on the market today.
