Cape Cod Folks is a lightly fictionalized account of Sarah Pratt McLean Greene’s experiences as a young schoolteacher in the isolated coastal village of South Wellfleet. Through humorous sketches and sharply observed character studies, Greene depicts the daily life, dialect, and customs of Cape Cod at the turn of the century. The book became popular for its vivid regionalism and remains an early example of New England local-color writing.
