BARRIE, J. M. Peter Pan and Wendy.
New York: Charles Scribner’s Sons, 1940. Blampied Edition. 9.5" x 7.25", viii + 216pp. Illustrated with a frontispiece and numerous illustrations by Edmund Blampied, including 12 full-page plates and 17 black & white drawings. Original publisher’s tan cloth, front cover and spine stamped in black with Blampied’s flying figures and star motifs; spine lettered in black. Minor rubbing at corners and spine ends, hinges sound, binding firm. Owner's name inside front cover and bookseller's ticket inside back cover. Very Good+ ex jacket.
Issued as the “Blampied Edition” of Peter Pan and Wendy, newly illustrated by Edmund Blampied, whose expressive, fluid line work brought a modern, atmospheric interpretation to Barrie’s text. Blampied’s illustrations emphasize motion, shadow, and theatricality, distinguishing this edition from earlier Rackham-illustrated versions and marking it as one of the most visually distinctive early twentieth-century presentations of the story.
