Among the selections are \"Kew Gardens,\" \"The Mark on the Wall,\" \"The String Quartet,\" and the title story, \"A Haunted House.\" Leonard Woolf's foreword explains his efforts to fulfill Virginia's intention to publish a second collection of her shorter fiction. The original dust jacket was designed by Woolf's sister, Vanessa Bell, whose distinctive artwork appeared on numerous Hogarth Press publications.
